New Litter of Puppies Due!

We are pleased to announce the upcoming litter from Harrison K-9. This breeding is between Boss and Bea. Boss is a black sable male and Bea is a solid black female. We expect the litter to be black sables and solid black puppies. You can see examples of these colors on our website at the K-9 showcase. This litter is expected to be born at the end of September to the first part of October.

Quinte-Finally I feel Safe.

Dear Harrison K-9, Thank you for bringing Quinte to me and my family in Canada. She is everything we asked for and more.

I took her to my vets to get more heartworm prevention and have her weighed so we know how we are doing with her nutrition and she was an angel. My vet is very impressed with her behavior and wishes all her clients dogs were so well behaved. She loves her nice comfy bed and now sleeps right beside my bed. We keep the crate close by but she prefers where she is. The other dogs have all adjusted well to her being here. Morgan is still Alpha but Quinte has accepted this for now. She likes to race around the back yard with Myles and Moose playing tag and seems to be the one who initiates all the play!!!

She has not left my side and is really attached to me. I think she enjoys farm life and all the activity going on.

We are at the cottage now and the trip did not stress her at all. As long as she is with us she seems content. We took all the dogs for a boat ride yesterday and she sat up in the bow of the boat taking in the scenery and smelling all the smells. She took a real interest in the seagulls as they are loud and annoying!!! She ended up sound a sleep on the floor of the boat in a heap with the other dogs and had a great day that ended with a great meal by the camp fire and a walk on the beach (which she also loves...although the labs have not convinced her to do more than wading around in the water!!!)

I think we are doing very well with her and everyone seems peaceful....we are all laughing at my mom because she was the one who was against the dog and was quite upset that we had got her. She was afraid her grandchildren were going to get attacked...well yesterday my mom and dad came over and Quinte slept peacefully at my feet on the front porch while we had a cup of tea together. My mom petted her a few times and went on and on about maybe she was a dud because she did not seem protective at all and maybe we paid alot of money for a dog that was not even going to bark!!! (people on bikes were going past and people walking etc.) Beth started giggling because we had all seen Quinte in action with you Patrick and found it funny that my mom thought she was not a good watch dog even!!! That evening my Mom came back over with some special chicken gravy for Quinte's dinner as the "poor dog is too thin!!!!" and needs some of Grandma's cooking!!! That made me feel better that she has accepted her.

So all in all things are going awesome. She is everything we have hoped for and more. I would also like to add that you made it so easy for us Patrick. You were wonderful to work with and made the transition so easy for us. We were very impressed by your work ethic and wish we could find people like you to work for us up here!!!! Our young guys seem so unmotivated and unloyal to our company sometimes...just doing the bare minimum and not caring for their jobs. You could tell you really care about your job and how you do it. You lead by example and are very hard working...Paul and I think you will go far!!!! Your energy is awesome and the kids are still talking about you and telling their friends about their American friend from South Carolina. Thanks for including them and making them feel part of it all. They are still laughing about Moose and his stinky roll in the poo.

I feel safe in my own home for the first time in a long time. It feels so good to curl up in bed a night and just let her do the listening. It has given me peace of mind. I feel alot more relaxed and I didn't even realize how stressed I was until now. I don't worry about the kids out in the yard. I feel confident going for walks in the woods again and she is a comfort to have around. I even fell asleep in the deck chair with her at my feet knowing she would let me know if someone was around. Paul said: You never do that!!! I could really get into this napping thing!!!! I might not get any work done.....

All for now...the weather has been super cool up her ( low 50's at night...sweater time) I think the climate agrees with Quinte...we are turning her into a real Canadian up here....eh?

Thanks again-Jana and Paul

Back in the Puppy Business

Harrison K-9 has decided to re-establish our breeding program. We have imported several females to add to our program and are currently looking at different pedigrees of potential males to determine the best bloodlines to accent our breeding females. We predict to breed around five to six litters a year. Hopefully this will meet our clients needs and we can provide a variety of colors and personalities to suit.

We also import European German Shepherd puppies directly from Germany for our clients that desire a direct bloodline from Europe or are looking for a specific age or level or training that is not normally provided by Harrison K-9.

Use of Electric Collars

Many times we are asked by potential clients about the use of electric collars to train Protection dogs. We here at Harrison K-9 do not use electric collars. All of our K-9s are trained with positive motivation or a typical training collar. When we look on other websites or talk to some Schutzhund or Police trainers that sell protection dogs we have discovered the dogs are all trained on electric collars. We feel this is because the handler or company either has no idea who the dog is and cannot bond with the dog or is just trying to force the dog to do the training in a effort to push the dog out and move on to the next dog. Here are Harrison K-9 we are committed to providing the best family protection dogs and we make sure we use a bond to train with to make sure our clients are receiving the best personality that they can control and temperament for their family. Without having to get out electricity for them to respond. When you are looking at websites of Protection dog facilities or speaking with a trainer on the phone ask them if they use Electric collars and if they say yest-run the other way, because if they cannot control the dog without the use of electricity you sure will not be able to control the dog.

Imported Schutzhund Puppies

Harrison K-9 is importing European German Shepherd puppies for our clients for many years. If you are looking for a specific bloodline or temperament we can find it. We also breed a small amount of litters a year. We sell a average of 2-3 tops. If you are looking for a quality working puppy or a family companion come to Harrison K-9 Security Services,LLC and we will find the puppy for you.

How a European German Shepherd becomes a Harrison K-9

Harrison K-9 Security Services,LLC has recently imported two very fine and well rounded female European German Shepherds from Germany. Both females are very beautiful and have excellent personalities. One is a solid black and the other a deep red and black. The process of importing K-9s is intense at Harrison K-9 and these two beautiful females are getting ready to undergo more evaluations and training than they have ever experienced before in their lives while in Europe. Starting off with full medical profiles including hip and elbow xrays. (Harrison K-9 personally x-rays all of their incoming K-9s and does not rely on the signature or "a" stamp from Germany like so many facilities do). Next comes blood panels to check all the organs and levels of the internal working of the dog. We check eyes, ears, heart and listen/watch the movement of the dog. If all this is good then the dog receives an "accepted" from our vet and then the evaluations for temperament and training come into play. A four page sheet outlining a series of tests is filled out each dog. Everything from tracking skills to courage is tested. The dogs are taken to shopping malls, boat docks, parks, airports, daycare centers and hotels to just name a few, places far from the field of training but common to the normal client. Each K-9 also lives with a trainer or staff member in their personal home so the staff can better judge the dogs "real" behavior when he is just being a dog and not just his ability to perform on the field. Since Harrison K-9 rarely sells dogs that continue to be shown in Schutzhund or other competitions, knowing who the dog is in a casual real life situation is the most important element, WHY? Because the average, everyday person who works and lives in life is too busy to take on a hyper dog that looks great on the field but has no idea what to do in their home. Harrison K-9 Security Services,LLC takes the guess work out of purchasing a working K-9 by careful consideration to what works for you in your lifestyle and training the dog to fit your home and family life not a dog you have to adjust your family to his/her lifestyle.

Cessy and Abigail

Dear Harrison K-9

Here is a photo of our protection K-9 Cessy we purchased from you over two years ago. As you can see her and our little girl Abigail are the best of friends. Cessy is very devoted to Abigail and they often sit together and watch cartoons. In this photo Abigail has fallen asleep on Cessy and Cessy, good as ever keeps watch quietly and never moves until she wakes up. Thank you for such a wonderful family companion. Cessy fills the bill as protector, babysitter and special friend.

Our Teddy Bear Quenda

Dear Harrison K-9 Staff,

I just wanted you to know how thrilled that I am with my purchase of Quenda. She is everywhere with me and fits in quite well. She is always watching, and never lets her guard down when we are out. I couldn't have asked for a better companion. She is good with the public, but yet ready to defend in an instant. She goes from " Teddy Bear" to " Nightmare" with just a word, and back to " Teddy Bear" when told that everything is fine. I will be purchasing another Harrison K-9 in the near future, your standards are high and that is what I like.

PS. She has never asked for food when I'm eating, has never gotten into anything, and if I leave anything out including her own snacks, she won't take them unless I give them to her.

I couldn't dream of another dog as great as she is. Perfect is the only word that fits.

Thank you

Jim D

First time Protection K-9 Owners

One of the biggest misconceptions in purchasing and owning a German Shepherd personal protection K-9 is that the dog will "turn" on the family or that the person handling the dog has to always be tough and strong on the dog or a big person. This is completely untrue. A personal protection German Shepherd trained at Harrison K-9 is evaluated and put through extensively training to make sure he or she is well trained and has the positive temperament needed to work and acclimate in a family home with children, guests, and a variety of different animals. We do this by bringing these dogs to our homes and actaully living one on one with each dog before it is sold, not just working the dog and putting it back in a kennel, but actually doing what our clients will do,everyday they have a dog. We also train our K-9s to be handled in a positive manner by men, women and children, making sure normal everyday tone on voice and soft hand signals can be used without the screaming foreign commands at the dogs or having to physically jerk them around. Too many training facilities rely on electric collars or force to make the dog obey and they call this necessary training. Harrison K-9's staff makes the time to bond with the dog and understand the dog is a part of the family and not just a robot. We only sell dogs we can see, touch and interact with daily. We do not sell dogs located at other facilities nor do we try to appear "Global" by saying we have kennels all over the world. Our K-9s are only titled German Shepherds from Europe, imported to the USA to our facility and tested in our homes before even being offered for sale. If you watch a demo and the handler cannot get the ball away or uses the ball in the demo or even worse uses electricity than you know you are looking at a dog you as a non-dog trainer will never be able to successfully control as well as a dog they do not know and have not taken the time to learn about. If they cannot motivate the dog as a partner or control the dog as a handler-how will you? How can they sell you a safe, secure but protective German Shepherd if they have no idea who the dog is.

Schutzhund- Do I really need a titled dog?

Do I really need a titled dog? This is a question placed to Harrison K-9s staff on a daily basis. Our response- Yes, if you are serious about owning a protection K-9 that will be around your family, friend and especially children we suggest a titled dog be the minimum you look for in a German Shepherd. Why? 99.99% of our client never show the dog in competiton and we do not encourage them to do so. The title gives you as a purchaser the security and knowledge to know that the dog had the ability, intellegence and temperament to achieve a working title like Schutzhund I, it is just a foundation for additional training to come. Many dogs are imported and sold without titles with the trainer/importer stating they have done all the training needed and the title is not necessary. Please do not buy into this. It is a ploy to get you to purchase a dog they bought "cheap" because it could NOT get a title. I promise you in Germany, if a dog can be titled it will be as the Germans know titled dogs bring more money to them when the dog is sold. Stay away from untitled dogs unless you are a professional trainer and handler, you will soon find out why that dog could not make the cut.
