Use of Electric Collars

Many times we are asked by potential clients about the use of electric collars to train Protection dogs. We here at Harrison K-9 do not use electric collars. All of our K-9s are trained with positive motivation or a typical training collar. When we look on other websites or talk to some Schutzhund or Police trainers that sell protection dogs we have discovered the dogs are all trained on electric collars. We feel this is because the handler or company either has no idea who the dog is and cannot bond with the dog or is just trying to force the dog to do the training in a effort to push the dog out and move on to the next dog. Here are Harrison K-9 we are committed to providing the best family protection dogs and we make sure we use a bond to train with to make sure our clients are receiving the best personality that they can control and temperament for their family. Without having to get out electricity for them to respond. When you are looking at websites of Protection dog facilities or speaking with a trainer on the phone ask them if they use Electric collars and if they say yest-run the other way, because if they cannot control the dog without the use of electricity you sure will not be able to control the dog.

How a European German Shepherd becomes a Harrison K-9

Harrison K-9 Security Services,LLC has recently imported two very fine and well rounded female European German Shepherds from Germany. Both females are very beautiful and have excellent personalities. One is a solid black and the other a deep red and black. The process of importing K-9s is intense at Harrison K-9 and these two beautiful females are getting ready to undergo more evaluations and training than they have ever experienced before in their lives while in Europe. Starting off with full medical profiles including hip and elbow xrays. (Harrison K-9 personally x-rays all of their incoming K-9s and does not rely on the signature or "a" stamp from Germany like so many facilities do). Next comes blood panels to check all the organs and levels of the internal working of the dog. We check eyes, ears, heart and listen/watch the movement of the dog. If all this is good then the dog receives an "accepted" from our vet and then the evaluations for temperament and training come into play. A four page sheet outlining a series of tests is filled out each dog. Everything from tracking skills to courage is tested. The dogs are taken to shopping malls, boat docks, parks, airports, daycare centers and hotels to just name a few, places far from the field of training but common to the normal client. Each K-9 also lives with a trainer or staff member in their personal home so the staff can better judge the dogs "real" behavior when he is just being a dog and not just his ability to perform on the field. Since Harrison K-9 rarely sells dogs that continue to be shown in Schutzhund or other competitions, knowing who the dog is in a casual real life situation is the most important element, WHY? Because the average, everyday person who works and lives in life is too busy to take on a hyper dog that looks great on the field but has no idea what to do in their home. Harrison K-9 Security Services,LLC takes the guess work out of purchasing a working K-9 by careful consideration to what works for you in your lifestyle and training the dog to fit your home and family life not a dog you have to adjust your family to his/her lifestyle.

First time Protection K-9 Owners

One of the biggest misconceptions in purchasing and owning a German Shepherd personal protection K-9 is that the dog will "turn" on the family or that the person handling the dog has to always be tough and strong on the dog or a big person. This is completely untrue. A personal protection German Shepherd trained at Harrison K-9 is evaluated and put through extensively training to make sure he or she is well trained and has the positive temperament needed to work and acclimate in a family home with children, guests, and a variety of different animals. We do this by bringing these dogs to our homes and actaully living one on one with each dog before it is sold, not just working the dog and putting it back in a kennel, but actually doing what our clients will do,everyday they have a dog. We also train our K-9s to be handled in a positive manner by men, women and children, making sure normal everyday tone on voice and soft hand signals can be used without the screaming foreign commands at the dogs or having to physically jerk them around. Too many training facilities rely on electric collars or force to make the dog obey and they call this necessary training. Harrison K-9's staff makes the time to bond with the dog and understand the dog is a part of the family and not just a robot. We only sell dogs we can see, touch and interact with daily. We do not sell dogs located at other facilities nor do we try to appear "Global" by saying we have kennels all over the world. Our K-9s are only titled German Shepherds from Europe, imported to the USA to our facility and tested in our homes before even being offered for sale. If you watch a demo and the handler cannot get the ball away or uses the ball in the demo or even worse uses electricity than you know you are looking at a dog you as a non-dog trainer will never be able to successfully control as well as a dog they do not know and have not taken the time to learn about. If they cannot motivate the dog as a partner or control the dog as a handler-how will you? How can they sell you a safe, secure but protective German Shepherd if they have no idea who the dog is.
