Hot weather tips

Here at Harrison K-9 it gets rather hot in the Summer months. We are located in Aiken, South Carolina and the temps have been know to soar into the triple digits, special attention should be paid to your K-9 companion. Providing a fresh and cool bowl of water when the dog is outside is very important. If you use a bucket watch it for any growth of algae or bacteria. These germs grow fast in the Summer months and can make a dog very sick. Also if you are a jogger or runner remember to run early in the morning or late in the evening when the temps are lower and it is cooler outside. Remember your dog is running in a fur coat. When you return from exercising even just walking, only give your dog a little bit of water. Just enough to wet his/her tongue. Too much water right away can make the dog sick. Allow your dog to cool down inside the house for about 30 minutes before allowing them free access to water. If you keep these tips in mind you and your dog will have a enjoyable Summer together. If you have any questions on how to deal with the hot Summer months or any othe rquestions please let us know.

j's Gravatar Your hot weather tips are a great service. The temps in southwest are now about 113 degrees. My wife today completed the SF half marathon today but used Valko during short training runs of up to 3 miles despite temps of 80 degrees at 5AM - she carried water for him also. Always felt her to be safe on her unaccompanied runs with Valko. Also another elderly addition to our family moved in (older that 80). She had always been afraid of dogs, but thinks Valko so smart that she now talks to him like one of grandchildren.

Hannah's Gravatar Really helpful tips for pet owners on summer days. Me and my dog loves to hike so we always need to carry those portable drinking water for easy access while on the hike. Good thing my dog loves to swim too and we had great plays of fetching and retrieving on the lake..
